Release notes

This page outlines the release notes for all recent versions of Charmed Ceph, summarising new features, backwards-incompatible changes and bug fixes in each release. It also contains upgrade instructions and may include deprecation notices, where available.

Charmed Ceph is based on upstream Ceph. Go to the upstream release notes to learn more about how upstream Ceph releases are handled. See the Ceph Squid release notes to get more detailed information about the Squid release in particular.

Note:

Charmed Ceph is a core component of the OpenStack Charms project. Historically, releases for Ceph charms coincided with OpenStack charms releases, and thus, Charmed Ceph releases were documented in the Charmed OpenStack release notes.

Squid on Noble

Released 2025-07-14

This release introduces initial support for Ceph v19 (Squid) on Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble).

Highlights

We are pleased to announce the initial release of the ceph-nvme charm, which provides an NVMe-oF gateway integrated with Ceph storage. This gateway enables a highly available (HA) solution for exporting RADOS Block Devices (RBD) as NVMe disks.

Known Issues

ceph-dashboard charm

Certain mgr modules are affected by an upstream issue, causing ceph-dashboard to crash when configured with TLS. As a result, the ceph-dashboard charm has been temporarily excluded from this Noble release. A fix is currently under development, and the updated charm will be made available once the solution is in place.

Discontinued Charms

Due to the ongoing upstream deprecation of Ceph iSCSI, the ceph-iscsi charm has been discontinued for Ceph Squid on Ubuntu Noble. Users should migrate to the new ceph-nvme charm as a replacement.
